About Michelle Wells
Michelle is an EMDR Europe Accredited Consultant and BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with over 15 years’ experience working in mental health services. Over the past decade, much of her work has focused on supporting people experiencing PTSD and complex PTSD, and she has spent many years working within specialist pathways in NHS Talking Therapies, helping individuals recover from the lasting impact of distressing life experiences.
Michelle currently works across both NHS Talking Therapies services and private practice, where she offers individual CBT and EMDR therapy. While PTSD and complex PTSD are a key area of her work, she also supports people experiencing a wide range of psychological difficulties, including anxiety, depression, panic, OCD, low self-esteem, phobias, and the impact of challenging life events.
Her clinical approach is grounded in evidence-based psychological therapies, with a strong emphasis on understanding each person’s individual experiences and tailoring therapy to their needs. In addition to CBT and EMDR, she draws on elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Compassion Focused Therapy and mindfulness-based approaches where helpful, integrating these in a way that supports each person’s goals and therapeutic process.
Alongside her clinical practice, Michelle remains actively involved in research, professional teaching, and service development. She is currently completing her doctoral training, with qualification expected in September 2026. Her doctoral research focuses on trauma-focused stabilisation within NHS Talking Therapies, with a particular interest in improving access to effective support for individuals experiencing PTSD and complex PTSD. Following qualification, she will practise under the title Dr Michelle Wells.
Michelle brings a warm, approachable, and down-to-earth style to therapy. She understands that starting therapy can feel daunting and places strong emphasis on creating a safe, supportive space where clients feel comfortable and at ease. As a veteran, Michelle understands the impact of service-related trauma, as well as the challenges that can come with high-pressure roles and transition. She is also a mum of two and understands the realities of balancing family life alongside personal wellbeing.
